Earnings Preview: What to expect in Apple’s fiscal-third quarter results

Analysts will pay close attention to sales of Apple's accessories like the Apple Watch and Airpods

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) is set to report its fiscal third-quarter earnings after the bell Tuesday in the midst of a rough patch for tech stocks.

Analysts are expecting earnings of US$2.18 per share on revenue of US$52.34bn.

Apple’s own revenue guidance for the quarter is between US$51.5bn and US$53.5bn.

iPhone unit sales are expected to be at 41.79 million, lower than the 52.2 million in its fiscal second quarter.

Three new iPhones are expected to launch in September though all the details have not yet been revealed.

Though iPhone sales are always a key metric, investors will be keeping an eye on Apple’s other devices as well.

While iPhones and Mac computers are exempt from the US tariffs on Chinese goods, Apple’s growing “other devices” unit is not immune. This segment includes its Apple Watch, Airpods and HomePod speaker.

As iPhone sales growth slows down, a price hike on its other products could hurt its profit margin.

Shares of the tech giant were up slightly to US$191.58 in Tuesday afternoon trading.
