PRE-MARKET MOVERS: eBay getting crushed in pre-market but PepsiCo nudges higher

American Express and Cisco Systems were also stocks in focus in pre-market in New York

US futures are seen lower and trending the same way in pre-market trade on Wall Street is online retail behemoth eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY).

Its shares are tanking 7.25% to US$35.20 in before-the-bell trade

It comes despite the group beating analysts' earnings expectations for its second quarter.

The group reported earnings of US$0.53 per share versus the US$0.51 that was estimated.

But the market appeared to focus on the company's missed revenue estimates, generating US$2.64bn against the US$2.66bn that had been expected..

Elsewhere, American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) shares shed 2.75% to US$100.15 in pre-market trade after the credit card titan missed revenue estimates.

Revenue rose to US$10bn, from US$9.2bn a year ago. Analysts had penciled in sales of US$10.06bn for the second quarter.

Meanwhile, Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), the tech conglomerate, saw shares add 1.52% to US$42.85 as it was reported that Amazon Web Services (AWS) was not planning to start selling network switches.

In a statement, Cisco said that it and AWS "have a longstanding customer and partner relationship".

PepsiCo Inc (NASDAQ:PEP) was also in focus before the bell as shares added 0.15% to US$115 .

It owns Frito-Lay, the division which produces the famous potato chips and it is now introducing eight new varieties. This is reportedly the largest roll-out of new flavors in the brand’s history.

New England Lobster Roll, Pimento Cheese and Chesapeake Bay crab spice are among the new offerings.

In other news, PepsiCo India, which sells snacks under the Kurkure and Lay’s brands, said on Wednesday it had cut salt content by as much as 15% in its Lay’s chips.
