Small-Cap Snapshot: Coherus BioSciences soars after addressing issues by the European regulator for its biosimilar application

Energy Fuels Inc, FuelCell Energy Inc, and CTI BioPharma are also making news

Coherus BioSciences Inc. (NASDAQ:CHRS) stock soared after a SEC filing showed it “satisfactorily addressed” issues raised by the European Medicines Agency for its pegfilgrastim biosimilar application, which can help the body make white blood cells after receiving cancer medications. The Redwood City, California, developer of biosimilar therapeutics said it received a report stating that no further concerns remained with respect to its CHS-1701 application which is now under review.

The biosimilar stock soared 19.8% to US$17.85.

Energy Fuels Inc (TSE:EFR, NYSE:UUUU) was among the top risers in New York after it announced that the US Department of Commerce has initiated an investigation into the effects of uranium imports on US national security. In January, Ur-Energy Inc (TSE:URE) and Energy Fuels Inc.campaigned against a flood of imports of uranium products into the USA and jointly signed a petition to the US Department of Commerce (DOC) for Relief Under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act from imports of uranium products that threaten national security.

Shares in Energy Fuels in New York added 9.52% to stand at US$2.53 each.

FuelCell Energy Inc. (NASDAQ:FCEL) announced Wednesday that it is planning to add more than 100 manufacturing jobs as it increases annual production to 55 megawatts from the current 25 megawatts run rate. The Danbury, Connecticut-based company said it will add over 100 manufacturing jobs at its Torrington, Connecticut, manufacturing facility to support the 120% increase in production rate.

Investors sent shares up nearly 5.5% to US$1.40 in morning trade.

Shares of CTI BioPharma Corp. (NASDAQ:CTIC) plunged after the clinical-stage biotech company announced that its phase 3 trial (PIX306) to evaluate combining its Pixuvri cancer drug with Biogen's rituximab failed to meet its primary endpoint. "We are disappointed with the outcome of the PIX306 trial and will proceed to conduct a thorough review of clinical data to assess the next steps for the PIXUVRI program," stated CTI BioPharma CEO Adam Craig.

Shares in the Seattle, Washington biotech tumbled 41.4% to US$2.34.
