Investigator Resources Ltd (ASX:IVR) has extended the strike potential to 800 metres in length through soil sampling at the Cartarpo cobalt-copper-lithium-nickel-REE prospect.
The prospect is based on the historical Cartarpo copper-cobalt mine in the Burra copper field of South Australia.
The anomalous geochemical zones identified from soil sampling are interpreted to extend 400 metres north of the old workings and are open to further extension.
Notably, the mineralisation also remains open to the south of the workings.
First-pass soil geochemical sampling
Soil geochemical sampling was undertaken on four 250-metre spaced traverses.
Target Zone A was anomalous in copper, lithium and nickel and Target Zone B was anomalous in cobalt, lithium, nickel and rare earth elements (REEs).
Expanded mapping and soil geochemistry planned
Investigator’s managing director John Anderson said: “The extension of these target zones to over 800 metres in length is an exciting development for Investigator.
“The coincidence with the Burra copper trend and a new geophysical hotspot is strong encouragement for large deposits, so we feel there is real potential here at Cartarpo as we continue to investigate the targets identified to date.”
Further target extensions are to be immediately pursued with expanded mapping and soil geochemistry.
History of high-grade production
The historical Cartarpo mine consists of scattered workings over 400 metres of strike with reports of six tonnes of high-grade production at 5% cobalt and 6.2% copper from 1867 to 1872.
Grab samples taken by Investigator at Cartarpo assayed up to 1.78% cobalt, 1.1% REEs, 0.52% copper, 0.42% nickel, 0.31% lithium in remnant gossan.
