US shares are seen starting higher on Thursday, and in pre-market deals a story in focus was most certainly the Broadcom Inc, CA Technologies deal.
Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) shares shed nearly 9% in pre-market deals to stand at US$221.90.
Meanwhile, CA Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:CA) surged 18.6% to US$44.13 as the pair struck an agreement.
Broadcom will acquire the latter for US$18.9bn in cash, and the deal values CA at a premium of about 20% to yesterday's closing price.
Commentators said the acquisition represented a strategic win for Broadcom, and furthered its mission to acquire "mission critical technology businesses," following the failed takeover bid for rival Qualcomm.
Taxi hail business Uber was also in the frame in pre-market deals, as news came out that the firm had laid off 100 self-driving car test operators. It comes after the high profile crash in Arizona.
Delta Airlines Inc (NYSE:DAL) shares flew up 1.12% before the bell to US$50.40, having closed 1.52% lower yesterday at US$49.84 after its second quarter profit topped Wall Street expectations.
Delta posted adjusted earnings per share of US$1.77 each, compared with Wall Street estimates of US$1.72 per share.
Meanwhile, revenue for the three months to end June rose 10% compared to 2017 at US$11.78bn, compared with expectations of US$11.72bn.
Box Inc (NYSE:BOX) shares were unchanged at US$26.25 ahead of the start of Wall Street trade, having nudged 0.27% higher at the close on Wednesday.
