The FTSE 100 is projected to rise 0.4% in early trade after tacking on 0.1% on Friday to take its weekly gain to almost 1.2%.
Mining major Vedanta Resources (LON:VED) led the blue chips with a 3.2% advance.
Sector peer ENRC (LON:ENRC) and defence contractor Cobham (LON:COB) tacked on nearly 3%.
Software developer Autonomy Corporation (LON:AU) and medical device manufacturer Smith & Nephew (LON:SN) added just over 2%.
Bank Standard Chartered (LON:STAN), fashion house Burberry (LON:BRBY) and quality and safety services provider Intertek (LON:ITK) were at the bottom of the pile with losses about 2.5%.
US stocks rose on Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 index added 0.35% and 0.6% respectively.
Asian markets were in buying mode today. China’s Shanghai Composite Index rallied 2.7%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng advanced 0.75%, South Korea’s KOSPI added 0.5% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 0.8%.
Commodities
Oil prices moved higher. US light, sweet crude for January delivery reached US$88.23/barrel.
Precious metals rose. Gold and silver advanced to US$1,388/oz and US$28.88/oz. Platinum climbed to US$1,685/oz.
Base metals followed. Copper and nickel rose to US$4.15/lb and US$10.91/lb and zinc reached US$1.056/lb.
