Toyota Motor Corp (NYSE:TM) is recalling as many as 121,000 Lexus vehicles around the globe due to fuel leaks in their engines that can cause fires.
The recall covers select ISO 350 cars from 2006 to 2013 as well as the 2010 through 2014 IS350 cars and the 2007 through 2011 GS 350 and GS450h vehicles. About 115,000 cars are being recalled in the US, according to a Toyota statement.
The vehicles involved are all equipped with a certain 3.5 liter V6 gasoline engine. The diaphragm material in the fuel pulsation dampers in this engine may harden over time and crack, causing fuel leaks, which can rachet up the risk of fires in the vehicles.
Lexus dealers will replace the fuel delivery pipes in the vehicles with new ones containing improved pulsation dampers at no cost.
Owners will be notified by mail starting in August.
Toyota ADR shares were trading at break-even levels in morning trade at US$128.27.
