Legend Mining Limited’s (ASX:LEG) ongoing Rockford project nickel-copper-cobalt results continue to provide comparisons to Independence Group’s (ASX:IGO) nearby Nova-Bollinger deposit.
The company has received further strong results from aircore drilling at Area D of Rockford, which is in the Fraser Range, around 120 kilometres from Nova-Bollinger.
30-metre mineralised intercept
Best result from the latest 12 aircore holes in the ongoing program is 30 metres at 0.31% nickel, 0.03% copper and 0.04% cobalt from 78 metres to the end of hole.
Within this was an 8-metre intersection from 98 metres that assayed 0.45% nickel, 0.03% copper and 0.04% cobalt.
Legend’s managing director Mark Wilson said: “These new assays extend the footprint of the nickel-copper anomalism at the third mineralised intrusive body to greater than 100 metres.
“They essentially reaffirm that the prospectivity for nickel-copper-cobalt deposits at not only Area D but the whole of our Rockford project and the entire Fraser Zone is considerably enhanced.”

Recent results have been driving share prices higher and Legend last week reached a new 12-month high of 4.6 cents.
The 12 holes were following up anomalous nickel-copper results in a previous drill hole and targeting other aeromagnetic and gravity features in the eastern part of Area D.
Results, which also include 16 metres at 0.22% nickel, 0.02% copper and 0.02% cobalt from 92 metres, support the third intrusive body previously identified in this area.
Next step is geophysics
Wilson said: “The next step once we’ve completed this aircore drilling is to do the geophysics, which tends to look deeper into the fresh rock to develop targets for RC and diamond drilling.”
Legend’s ground in the Fraser Range is highly prospective for an ore body similar to Nova-Bollinger.
There is geological evidence to draw parallels between the mineralisation being targeted by Legend and that present at Nova-Bollinger.
Future programs
- Commence regional aircore program over selected targets in southern Rockford project.
- Full geological and geochemical assessment of Area D aircore drilling program.
- Integrate results of Area D geophysical review with geological/geochemical dataset to assist in the planning of future programs.
