Synchronica’s (LON:SYNC,TSX-V:SYN) instant messaging platform is now being certified by a third device manufacturer, so it can offer the service on networks run by a major Latin American operator.
The Latin American mobile operator mandates device manufacturers to certify their handsets with Synchronica's IM infrastructure.
In theory this safeguards the operator’s market position.
Synchronica highlights that network operators are facing a growing threat from premium device manufacturers, who are increasingly marketing device-specific services to establish direct relationships with end-users.
From the operators' point of view this dilutes their competitive positioning with the consumer.
Synchronica claims that its service is a vendor-neutral, operator-owned instant messaging system. According to Synchronica it binds users to the operator’s brand and puts it back in control of its value-added services.
"Device certification is important to Synchronica because it allows us to ensure that handsets are optimised for use with our IM service, encouraging end-user registration and ongoing user satisfaction,” chief executive Carsten Brinkschulte said.
“But most exciting are the indirect revenues and business development prospects which this process provides, enabling Synchronica to leverage on the relationships we're building and upsell our solutions."
Synchronica expects more orders from other device manufacturers that also want to sell their devices to the operator, as well as repeat orders as new handsets are launched.
It also expects to see an increase in the uptake of its Instant Messaging service by the carrier's subscribers, which ultimately translates into increased revenues for Synchronica.
