Proactive Weekly Mining Highlights: Crusader Resources, Papua Mining, Strategic Minerals, Orosur Minining…

A glance at this week’s top stories from London’s junior miners

Crusader Resources Ltd (LON:CAS, ASX:CAS) delivered some exciting drill results from three gold prospects in Brazil.

The high-grade Juruena and Novo Astro deposits are sited within the Alta Floresta belt in the west of the country, an area that is generating interest for a number of the industry's major players.

Papua Mining PLC (LON:PML) said that geophysics survey at the Marengo gold/copper project has defined quasi linear IP and resistivity anomalies at One Mile Mountain, which may be related to high gold zones sitting on the edge of a deeper porphyry system.

The company also announced three director changes, with Michael Somerset-Leeke, Hugh McCullough and Kieran Harrington resigning from the board.

And Strategic Minerals Plc( LON:SML) (USOTC:SMCDY) said it has agreed amended the contract with the major client of its Southern Minerals Group (SMG) subsidiary at the Cobre magnetite stockpile in New Mexico, USA.

The AIM-listed a producing mineral company said the amended contract will provide the client with sufficient time to put in place necessary environmental approvals and operating procedures to resume the offtake of magnetite material, while at the same time ensuring that SMG is in a similar after-tax cash position as per the previous contract.

Meanwhile Orosur Mining Inc (LON:OMI) released details of its gold exploration campaign at the high grade Anzá project in Colombia.

Following success in the APTA portion of the project, where 18 recent holes confirmed consistent mineralisation, the company has now drilled five scout holes in the Charrascala area, which is one of four previously untested target and it has confirmed the presence of gold in the system.

Kibo Mining PLC (LON:KIBO) signed a joint venture (jv) agreement with Mozambique energy company Termoeléctrica de Benga SA to participate in the potential development of the Benga Independent Power Project (BIPP).

And Metal Tiger PLC (LON:MTR) signed a binding investment agreement to acquire up to 50% of Botswanan- focused explorer Kalahari Metals Limited (KML) for a total consideration of US$1.6mln.

ECR Minerals PLC (LON:ECR) completed a diamond drilling programme across the Bung Bong and Monte Christo gold prospects in Central Victoria, Australia.

“All five holes at Bung Bong and the two holes at Monte Christo fulfilled their intended purpose, which was to test the structural architecture of the target areas and guide further drilling, if warranted,” said Craig Brown, ECR chief executive.

Elsewhere Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SKG) said it will not face a hostile takeover bid from US-based packaging and paper products giant International Paper Co. (NYSE:IP).

In a statement on Wednesday, International Paper confirmed that it will not make an offer for its Ireland-based, FTSE 100-listed rival “given the lack of engagement by Smurfit Kappa's Board of Directors and Management.”

African Battery Metals PLC (LON:ABM) has now completed two auger programmes at its 53 square kilometre Kisinka permit in the Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

These collected soil samples along lines across the seven-to-eight kilometre length of the licence, which is highly prospective for cobalt and copper.

And Arc Minerals Ltd (LON:ARCM) increased its ownership of Zamsort Limited, following the acquisition of a 6% interest from Terra Metals Limited.

Zamsort is developing the Kalaba copper-cobalt project in north-west Zambia, which is just a few months away from initial production.
