Wall Street shares are seen starting a quiet Friday in the red after a mixed close on Thursday and as European indices lag ahead of the G7 meeting in Quebec.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 95 points ahead at 25,241, while the S&P 500 lost 1.98 at 2,770.
The tech heavy Nasdaq shed 55 points to close at 7,635, weighed by declines in giants Facebook (NASDAQ:FB.) and Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX).
In Europe, the FTSE 100 index in London is down 30 points at 7,673.
The German DAX is off 92 points and France's CAC 40 is 14 points lower.
The G7 meeting sees the largest advanced economies in the world coem together and the dominant topic will be the trade war.
In Asia overnight, the Nikkei 225 index in Japan lost 128 points, while the Shanghai Composite Index shed 42 to 3,067.
Joshua Mahony, market analysts at spreadbetter IG Index in London, said: "With the G7 meeting kicking off in somewhat acrimonious fashion, it is looking increasingly unlikely that we will see any form of positive outcome from a trade standpoint.
"Trump has already criticised Trudeau and Macron on Twitter, and the breakdown in trade that could come with a bitter war of words is certainly raising risks in financial markets.”
