PRE-MARKET MOVERS: Investors lose appetite for J M Smucker shares but Five Below goes higher

Cloudera and Alphabet are two other stocks in focus before the New York bell

US stocks are seen starting in the green Thursday, and a notable mover in pre-market deals was food product maker J M Smucker Co (NYSE:SJM).

The stock plunged nearly 9% before the bell to US$97 - a three and a half year low after three-month numbers fell short.

Net income for the quarter to end April rose to US$185.9mln, or US$1.64 a share, from $110.4 million, or $0.96 a share, in the same period a year ago.

Meanwhile, sales slipped to US$1.781bn from US$1.784bn, below the consensus of US$1.80bn.

Five Below Inc (NASDAQ:FIVE), the discount chain, surged around 15% to US$93.55, after the firm beat its first-quarter earnings expectations and issued better-than-expected second-quarter guidance.

Net income came in at US$21.8mln, or $0.39 a share, compared with US$8.4mln, or $0.15 a share, a year earlier.

Elsewhere, Cloudera Inc (NYSE:CLDR) shares shed 6.87% to US$16 in pre-market after the cloud-software company's quarterly results and outlook were a tad better than Wall Street estimates.

Last but not least, Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) shares are down 0.13% to US$1,145 before the New York bell.

It comes after a report about the Google parent, that the EU is preparing to target the comp-map with a big fine for abusing its dominance through the Android mobile operating system.
