Proactive Weekly Oil Highlights: 88 Energy, Hurricane, Echo, United Oil & Gas, UKOG ...

It was another busy week in the oil and gas sector.

Hurricane Energy Plc (LON:HUR) has now begun well operations at the Lancaster oil field as it continues to develop the early production system (EPS).

The offshore oiler, in a statement, told investors that well re-entry and completion work is now being undertaken by contractor Petrofac, utilising the Transocean Paul B. Loyd Jr. harsh environment semisubmersible rig.

It highlighted that the EPS will use two previously drilled and suspended wells, tagged 205/21a-6 and 205/21a-7Z. The wells will produce via electrical submersible pumps

Echo Energy Plc (LON:ECHO) on Tuesday told investors that drilling is now underway on the ELA-1 well, at the Laguna de Los Capones asset which is part of the wider Fracción C project area.

It is the second of four planned wells in the current programme. Drilling began on May 26. The well is targeting a structural 4 way closure at the Springhill and Tobifera levels, Echo noted.

88 Energy Ltd (LON:88E) confirmed it is on-track to restart well testing operations at the Icewine-2 well site by June 11. The company, in a statement, told investors that site clearance work had now been completed, meanwhile, pressure build up analysis is presently underway ahead of the tests.

It noted that pressure measurements at the wellhead are positive in regards to maintenance of downhole pressure, as expected.

United Oil & Gas Plc (LON:UOG) shares rose on Tuesday after the group updated investors as the 20% owned Podere Maiar 1 well, in the Podere Gallina licence, is advancing towards production.

The Podere Maiar discovery was announced in January, following positive well results, and, United today confirms that a development plan has now been submitted to the Italian authorities. It is planned that a fully automated gas plant will be built at the existing well site for a cost of €2.4mln and a one kilometres pipeline will be needed.

According to the development plan, the initial field will yield a combined 5.3mln cubic feet of gas per day from two reservoir intervals, C1 and C2. Meanwhile, later phases of work will see additional wells drilled and potentially brought into production depending upon results.

UK Oil & Gas Investments PLC (LON:UKOG) shares edged higher on Thursday after the onshore oiler revealed that it has secured an extension to its licence for the Broadford Bridge project in Southern England.

The UK Oil and Gas Authority has granted the extension for the PEDL234 licence to 31 December 2023, from the previous deadline of 30 June 2018.

It comes with an agreed work programme that will include two additional wells into the Kimmeridge limestone, in new locations within the central part of the licence - one of which will also test the potentially significant Godley Bridge-1 Portland gas discovery.

Additionally, in the event of a commercial discovery within the licence (including the existing BB-1 discovery) the company will be required to drill and flow test an appraisal well or sidetrack.

Highlands Natural Resources Plc (LON:HNR) told investors that it has leased an 800 acre area in Kansas where it sees potential for abundant, low-cost nitrogen gas resources.

With this move, the company believes it can become a low-cost nitrogen producer which would complement its DT Ultravert well services business (which requires nitrogen supplies). Drilling activity is planned to start within the next two weeks, the company said.

Mosman Oil And Gas Limited (LON:MSMN) told investors that it has now seen the first flow of fluids following the installation of two Electrical Submersible Pumps at the Arkoma project in Oklahoma.

The company said that it is too early to provide oil or gas measurements, though stabilised flow rates are due at the end of June. Flow data will inform the company’s decision over its option to potentially increase its stake in the Arkoma project to 33.3% from 27% on or before July 31.

Cadogan Petroleum Plc (LON:CAD) told investors that it has successfully carried out a workover programme for the Blazh-Mon 3 well, which has now seen production double. The Blazh-Mon 3 well has flowed at a rate of 24 barrels of oil per day following the intervention.

It is the latest well to be treated - two others were completed previously - and overall the workovers has triggered a 150% improvement in production, to 225 bopd.
