Wall Street seen reversing losses but traders fret over renewed US/China trade fears

In Europe today, equity markets made a mixed start through the trend is upward.

After a big-sell off yesterday, US shares are set to open in postitive territory midweek.

In Europe today, equity markets made a mixed start through the trend is upward. FTSE 100 in London is up around 22 points at the time of writing.

Wall Street benchmarks closed sharply lower on Tuesday, weighed on by political upset in Italy and Spain, which is rocking the Eurozone again.

Today, traders have also again been spooked by renewed fears over US- China relations.

President Trump's administration said yesterday it would impose 25% tariffs on US$50bn worth of goods from China, and place new limits on Chinese investments.

It comes after talks earlier this month, where it had been agreed China would "significantly increase" purchases of US goods and services to reduce their trade imbalance.

The Dow Jones Industrial average closed 391 points lower at 24,361, but futures today point to a 138-point gain at the start; The broader based S&P 500 shed 31 points to 2,689 but futures are 13 points ahead.

Meanwhile, the tech heavy Nasdaq closed around 37 points lower, but Nasdaq futures today are 19 points ahead.

In Asia overnight, the Nikkei 225 dropped 339 points at 22,018, while the Shanghai Composite Index closed 79 at 3,041.

On the corporate agenda today in the U.S, Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM), Twitter (NASDAQ:TWTR) hold annual shareholder meetings.
