US stock futures point lower after Tuesday's sell-off; European bench marks flag after Trump comments

Wall Street shares took a beating on Tuesday and finished sharply lower

US stock futures are pointing lower Wednesday, after shares finished in a sea of red yesterday.

It came as President Trump indicated he was not pleased with US/ China’s trade negotiations and warned that the planned US-North Korean summit may not take place.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 178 points lower at 24,834, while the tech heavy Nasdaq shed 15 points to close at 7,378.

The broader based S&P 500 index lost around eight points.

In Europe on Wednesday, indices are lower across the board at the time of writing, with FTSE 100 down around 51 points at 7,826 after closing at record highs for the last two days.

The German Dax is down 191 points, while the CAC 40 in Paris is off 59 points at 5,580.

"European equity markets are lower after President Tump announced he wasn’t ‘satisfied’ with how the trade talks with China are going," noted David Madden, analyst at CMC Markets earlier

"Investors used the remarks as an excuse to exit their equity positions after a strong session yesterday."

In Toronto, the largest market there, the TSX closed down around 17 points at 16,144 on Tuesday, while the venture exchange added 1.46 points at 787.85.
