Deltex Medical’s CardioQ boosted by NHS awards

Deltex Medical’s (LON:DEMG) CardioQ-ODM (oesophageal doppler monitoring) device is expected to get a boost from a number of awards in the NHS.

The NHS National Technology Adoption Centre’s (NTAC) has carried out a number of project using the CardioQ-ODM, and this work has subsequently been recognised by two separate awards.

"We are delighted that NTAC's work on ODM is being recognised through awards,” Deltex chief executive Ewan Phillips said.

“They are an important way for the NHS to hear about best clinical and management practice.”

"NTAC has built an excellent reputation and we expect it to have a pivotal role in the implementation of the Department of Health's National Innovation Procurement Plan."

The Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has won the 2010 North-West Health and Social Care Award in the Acute Care Category.

It was for its work with NTAC to implement ODM into routine use in surgery.

Meanwhile, the national NTAC project on ODM 'Doppler Guided Intraoperative Fluid Management' was shortlisted for the Health Service Journal (HSJ) award in the Quality and Productivity category.

Notably it was the only medical technology implementation project among all the 130 shortlisted entries across all categories.

The oesophageal Doppler monitoring (ODM) device is Deltex Medical’s lead product.

CardioQ comprises a monitor and a single-patient disposable probe, which is placed into the oesophagus through either the mouth or the nose with the tip of the probe positioned so that it is close to the descending aorta.

The speed of blood travelling down the aorta is then measured by using a low-frequency ultrasound signal.
