Goals Soccer revenues affected by Beast, to splash £3mln on upgrade

Snow in March disrupted pitch availability, reducing sales by £500,000

Five-a-side specialist Goals Soccer Centres PLC (LON:GOAL) has taken a hit from the Beast from the East.

Snow in March disrupted pitch availability, reducing sales by £500,000 and meant like-for-like sales fell by 1.9% in the first 18 weeks of 2018.

Goals is responding by upping its spending to upgrade its estate with a further £3mln to be invested in the summer to refurbish 90 pitches at 18 five-a-side clubs.

These clubs have been seeing sales decline and Goals hopes the upgrade will reverse their decline.

Post this refurbishment 73% of the Goals estate will have been upgraded reducing the average pitch age to 3.2 years, it said.

A third US club, at Rancho Cucamonga in Los Angeles opened in January with construction of a fourth US club in Covina, Los Angeles, starting earlier this week.
