Shares in Blink Charging (NASDAQ:BLNK) soared in morning trade on Monday after the owner and operator of electric vehicle charging stations revealed a new partnership with Amazon.com Inc’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Whole Foods market.
In early trade, the company’s shares shot up 140.5% to trade at US$3.47 after Blink introduced electric vehicle charging stations at a trio of Whole Foods locations across Pennsylvania – in Spring House, Exton and Lancaster.
Blink has grand plans to roll out more charging stations at additional Whole Foods stores. Any shopper with an electric vehicle will be able to use the charging stations and can locate them by employing Blink’s free app.
Like all of Blink’s charging stations, the charging units at Whole Foods connect to the Blink network, a cloud-based system which manages and tracks its entire suite of electric vehicle stations.
Since its US$13.7bln takeover by Amazon last year, Whole Foods has gone out of its way to appeal to its customers, lowering prices on fresh produce and offering delivery via Amazon’s prime network.
