Sysco Corp. (NYSE:SYY) has reported fiscal third-quarter results that modestly beat analyst bottom-line estimates.
Sysco posted net income for the quarter that ended 31 March 2018 of US$330.1mln, up 38.5% from net income of US$238.3mln in the third quarter of fiscal 2017. Per-share profits rose even more, increasing 43% to US$0.63 from US$0.44, because of fewer shares outstanding this year.
On a non-GAAP basis, the food distributor reported net earnings of US$355.6mln, or US$0.67 a share, in this year's third quarter. Yahoo Finance put the average earnings estimate of 11 analysts at US$0.64 a share.
Revenue at Sysco rose 6%, to US$14.35bn from US$13.52bn, which was in line with analyst expectations.
'We had a solid quarter, driven by strong top-line results that translated into healthy gross profit dollar growth," Tom Bené, Sysco’s president and CEO, said.
Shares of Sysco were up around 1% after the opening bell, at US$62.88.
