easyJet reports passenger growth in April despite French industrial action and adverse weather

The FTSE 100-listed firm said it carried 7.45mln passengers in April 2018, up from 7.1mln at the same time a year ago

EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shares jumped on Friday morning as the airline carried more passengers in April, despite cancellations caused by French industrial action and adverse weather conditions.

The FTSE 100-listed firm flew 7.45mln passengers in April, up from 7.1mln a year ago.

The load factor - the number of passengers as a proportion to the number of seats available - rose to 93.4% from 92.9%.

Over 12 months to April, easyjet flew 82.8mln passengers, up 8% from 76.6mln a year ago, with the load factor rising 1.4pp to 93.3% from 92%.

April saw 323 cancellations, with over half of them due to French industrial action and the rest caused by adverse weather, a 24-hour closure of Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport and technical issues.

In morning trading, company’s shares jumped 2% to 1,645.5p.
