Burberry Group appoints Belstaff boss to newly created position of chief commercial officer

Haig joins Burberry from sportswear brand Belstaff, where he was chief executive, and he previously spent a decade at watch maker Cartier, where he was managing director of international operations

Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) said it has appointed Gavin Haig to the newly created position of chief commercial officer, with effect from April 23.

In a statement on its website, the FTSE 100-listed luxury group said that Haig will be responsible for all regions in which Burberry operates in and will report to chief executive Marco Gobbetti.

The company said Haig joins it from sportswear brand Belstaff, where he was chief executive, and he previously spent a decade at watch maker Cartier, where he was managing director of international operations.

He has also held senior positions at Alfred Dunhill and Wedgwood.

Gobbetti commented: “Gavin has extensive experience in global luxury retail, which will be invaluable as we implement our strategy.”

The new management appointment is the latest by Gobbetti, who took over the reins at the luxury firm from Christopher Bailey in July last year.

In early March, Burberry appointed Riccardo Tisci as its new creative chief to succeed Bailey who relinquished his roles with the group at the same time.

Burberry shares were 1.4% higher at 1,739p in afternoon trading.
