General Electric is weighing spinoff, pubic offering of GE Transportation business, Journal reports

Company also considering hybrid deals to combine assets with other firms

General Electric Co. (NYSE:GE) is studying a spinoff or a public offering of its GE Transportation unit, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the situation.

GE is also considering discussing hybrid deals with other companies to combine assets, giving GE shareholders stakes in other public businesses, according to the report. It added that the GE Transportation business is valued at about US$7bn.

GE shares were little changed at US$13.02 in pre-market trading.
