Eon NRG Ltd (ASX:E2E) has staked 24 further claims prospective for the key battery metal of cobalt near its original 18 claims in the Stillwater Range of the US state of Nevada.
The extra claims staked by the company’s geologist give Eon exploration rights over 840 acres of land, including the historical Gilberts silver, gold and lead mine.
Other historical workings, including numerous adits and tunnels, are within the newly staked claims.

Eon is assessing the new prospects as well as the Gilberts mine for cobalt, which is often associated with polymetallic deposits.
The new claims are considered highly prospective given that the Lovelock Cobalt Mine is just 3 miles west.
This mine was reportedly discovered around 1882 and production of nickel and cobalt began in 1883.
About 500 tons of nickel and cobalt ore was mined until 1889 with geochemical analysis from the era indicating that the average composition of cobaltite contained 14% cobalt and 12% nickel.
Company creates battery minerals division
Eon is expanding its relevance in the energy sector through the creation of a battery minerals exploration division to take advantage of growing demand for metals used in battery storage.
The company is targeting high-impact energy exploration projects in oil, gas, and or battery minerals, supported by its 100%-owned and operated long life oil and gas production assets.
