Carlyle Group agrees to buy Australian winemaker Accolade for US$772mln - report

Accolade produces mass-market brands including Hardy's

The Carlyle Group LP (NASDAQ:CG) agreed to acquire Australian winemaker Accolade Wines Ltd., which produces mass-market brands including Hardy’s and Banrock Station, from Champ Private Equity for A$1bln (US$772mln), the Australian Financial Review reported.

Carlyle, a U.S. private-equity company, will get Champ’s 80% stake in Accolade and the remaining 20% owned by U.S. liquor company Constellation Brands Inc. (NYSE:STZ), the report said, citing Champ's Chief Executive Officer John Haddock.

Carlyle shares were little changed at US$20.95 at 10:10 am.
