Cynata Therapeutics Ltd’s (ASX:CYP) shares surged more than 20% following results from the preliminary evaluation period trials of its Cymerus mesenchymal stem cell product.
This was the first Cohort of patients in the clinical trial for the treatment of steroid-resistant graft versus host disease GvHD.
All participants in the cohort demonstrated at least a partial response, defined as an improvement in the severity of GvHD by at least one grade compared to baseline.
Four participants demonstrated a complete response, defined as the absence of any GvHD signs or symptoms.
Overall response rate of 100%
The overall response rate, defined as the proportion of patients showing either a partial or complete response, was 100% by day 100.
GvHD is a life threatening and potentially fatal disease, making it encouraging that at this time, seven of the eight participants in cohort A remain alive.
Based on recently released independent research, the global market opportunity for GvHD has been estimated to reach approximately US$500 million per annum by 2021.
Cohort B examines higher dose results
In cohort B, a total of eight participants will receive two infusions of the same stem cell product, CYP-001.
A dose of two million cells per kilogram of bodyweight will be administered, up to a maximum of 200 million cells per infusion.
Enrolment of participants into cohort B is progressing well, with seven clinical sites in the UK and Australia open for enrolment.
