Dow Jones closes higher
S&P 500 higher, but Nasdaq lower
TSX turns lower
US stocks closed mainly higher on Thursday, with the Dow Jones up over 164 points at 24, 962.
The S&P 500 was up 2.63 at 2,703 but the Nasdaq was down over eight points at 7,210.
US crude was up 1.61% to US$62.67 a barrel.
In Toronto, the TSX was down almost 16 points at 15,508.
MID-SESSION
Wall Street stocks were sharply higher at mid-session, with the Dow Jones up 299 points, or 1.21%, to 25,096.
The S&P 500 was also up - over 23 points higher at 2,725.
The tech heavy Nasdaq added nearly 39 points at 7,257.
In Toronto, the TSX is up over 88 points at 15,612.
AAC Holdings Inc (NYSE:AAC) was a notable gainer, up over 17% to US$9.84 after the company reported upbeat fourth quarter numbers.
The rehab clinics' owner reported a surge in fourth-quarter revenues.
Total revenues rose 19% to US$86.1mln in the three months ended December 31 as American Addiction Centers - largely due to its expanded outpatient and sober living offerings.

OPEN
US stocks put yesterday's losses behind them and started on the front foot on Thursday, with the Dow Jones adding over 148 points at 24,935.
The broader based S&P 500 added over 11 points at 2,712.
The Nasdaq added 27 points at 7,246.
US crude - West Texas Intermediate - was up 0.42% to US$61.95.
In stocks, a notable mover was big oiler Chesapeake Energy Corp (NYSE:CHK), which gushed over 18% higher at US$3.10 after posting results.
Higher production and buoyant oil prices put a sheen on fourh quarter numbers.
The energy company reported net income of US$309mln, equivalent to 33 US cents a share, which represented a big turnaround from the same period a year before, when it reported a net loss of US$740mln – a loss of 83 US cents a share.
