Orthocell Ltd (ASX:OCC) has secured a U.S. patent for its “Cell Factory” derived bioactive molecules for the generation of tissue-specific growth factors to enhance tissue regeneration.
Cell Factory is a promising pipeline product designed to enhance tissue regeneration through the application of tissue-specific growth factors.
Importantly, intellectual property for Orthocell’s Cell Factory concept is now granted in the U.S. and Europe.

The intellectual property is based on research carried out by Orthocell director Lars Lidgren, professor emeritus at the Department of Orthopaedics at Lund University in Sweden.
Cell Factory technology is focused on the production of ‘tissue-specific’ proteins which enhance the human body’s natural repair mechanism.
As the population ages and musculoskeletal conditions become more prevalent, doctors and patients are seeking innovative and cost-effective treatments.
Implantation of cultivated cell-derived proteins have the potential to be an effective procedure for regeneration of bone, cartilage and other soft tissue injuries either on their own or combined with Orthocell’s CelGro collagen scaffold.
Last year, Orthocell secured European regulatory approval (CE Mark) for CelGro.

A key advantage of CelGro over other scaffolds is that it integrates with the soft tissue under repair and also degrades at the same rate as the body heals.
