Titomic Ltd’s (ASX:TTT) Australian patent award for its Titomic Kinetic Fusion technology will positively impact its Australian operations and provide new export opportunities.
The company overcomes limitations of previous additive manufacturing (3D printing) for metals to manufacture complex parts without shape or size constraints.
International patents in an industry undergoing global expansion
Titomic has now secured patents for the Titomic Kinetic Fusion technology in the United States, China, Japan, New Zealand.
The group also has patents pending approval in Hong Kong, South Korea and Europe.
The additive manufacturing industry is expected to grow from $6.1 billion in 2016 to approximately $26.2 billion by 2022 according to leading industry research house Wohlers Associates.
More than three times faster than the speed of sound
The company’s technology incorporates the application of cold-gas dynamic spraying of titanium or titanium alloy particles onto a scaffold.
Titanium alloys are sprayed onto a scaffold surface or a build plate at supersonic speeds of more than three times the speed of sound.
At this stage the particles impact and bond to the scaffold or to themselves to create a 3D formed part.
This produces a load-bearing structure, better known as Titomic Kinetic Fusion.

Titomic offers design and manufacturing methods to enable speed-to-market, superior products at lower production costs and using less resources.
The latter attribute fits into the sustainable future theme which has been an attraction for many ASX listed stocks as investors strive to build an ‘ethical portfolio’.
Use of robotic technology
Titomic’s additive manufacturing machines can customise build size to customer requirements, offering additive manufacturing advantages at industrial scale.
Multiple robots can be utilised to build larger parts, competing with traditional manufacturing solutions.
The technology has applications in the manufacture of equipment related to aerospace, defence, sporting goods, medical, automotive, industrial equipment, construction and marine.
