Enabled by Bango, carrier billed payment is initially available to over 12mln subscribers in Mexico on any platform, including Android, Apple and Microsoft devices.

"Carrier billing adds many new customers to merchant services,” observed Ray Anderson, the chief executive officer of Bango.

“After doubling the end-user spend run rate for the third consecutive year, this is a great way to start 2018," he added.

The company said trading in 2017 was in line with expectations; total end-user spend (EUS) for 2017 was £271mln, more than double 2016’s £132mln.

Bango had cash of £4.8mln at the end of 2017, down from £5.7mln a year earlier.
