Bitcoin remains some way off highs, Asian crypto traders turn to Ethereum

In these early days of January Bitcoin appears as welcome as December’s cold turkey, but, the price of the Ethereum cryptocurrency is now hitting new highs.

Ethereum reached a new record level above US$900 on Tuesday, trading at around US$914.

It comes amid a reported uptick in trading volumes out of Asia – with notably more transactions out of Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea.

Ethereum, currently the third largest cryptocurrency, is now worth a combined US$85bn with nearly 80mln tokens presently in existence.

Bitcoin cryptocurrency, meanwhile, remained someway off recent highs changing hands at around US$13,800, up 2.85% for Tuesday, which gives it a combined market value of just over US$230bn with 16.7mln virtual coins in circulation.
