Market looking for Trinity Mirror to update on possible Daily Express and Star acquisition on Friday

In the final full Friday trading session before Christmas, there’s not much scheduled news to get the markets excited

Fridays are generally the quietest the day of the week, and it’s no different this time around. There’s a serious dearth of scheduled news knocking about, with only three companies booked in the diary.

Specialist recruiter SThree PLC (LON:STHR) is one of those and investors will be hoping it can follow its rival Robert Walters PLC (LON:RWA) which upgraded its full-year forecasts earlier this week after a strong performance across all of its territories.

Back in September SThree topped expectations with its third quarter results, and analysts at Numis expect the US and Europe – the star performers in Q3 – to have continued their good form in the final three months of the year.

The City broker also reckons there is a chance that forecasts could be upgraded again assuming the momentum has indeed continued.

Elsewhere, Daily Mirror publisher Trinity Mirror PLC (LON:TNI) is set to release a full-year trading update on Friday.

The market already knows roughly what to expect after the company said in October that it was on track to hit expectations with its full-year numbers despite a slide in third quarter revenues.

In that statement there were no updates on the discussions with Northern & Shell over the possible acquisition of the Daily Express and Star newspapers, so investors will hope for something more substantial.

Perhaps that might be asking too much though, with Numis claiming that a comment along the lines of ‘discussions are still ongoing’ is more likely.

Significant events expected Friday December 15:

Interim results: Thruvision Group plc (LON:THRU)

Trading updates: SThree PLC (LON:STHR), Trinity Mirror PLC (LON:TNI)

Economic data: US industrial production; US Empire State manufacturing survey
