Ulta Beauty, Amabarella and Nutanix - AFTER HOURS

Beauty products seller Ulta Beauty found the market hard to please, as like-for-like sales growth slowed

The last knockings of November saw Ulta Beauty, Ambarella and Nutanix active in after-hours trading.

Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:ULTA) was down more than 5% in screen-based trading after disappointing quarterly results.

The beauty products seller saw net sales in the thirteen weeks to 28 October rise to US$1.34bn from US$1.13bn the year before, with hurricanes Harvey and Irma estimated to have cost the company around US$14mln in lost sales.

Like-for-like sales (LFL) were up 10.3% year-on-year in the quarter, with six percentage points attributed to growth in transaction and the rest coming from increased prices.

LFL sales for the first nine months of the financial year were up 12.1% on a year ago, so the growth rate slowed in the third quarter, which probably accounted for the share price getting hammered.

Ambarella Inc (NASDAQ:AMBA), the video compression specialist, saw its shares surge almost 7% in after-hours trading following its third quarter earnings update.

The chip-maker's net income of US$11.7mln was equivalent to 34 cents; adjusted for stock option expenses, earnings per share were 75 cents, nine cents above the consensus forecast.

Revenue of US$89.1mln marginally topped analysts expectation of US$89mln.

Cloud-based data storage solutions provider Nutanix Inc (NASDAQ:NTNX) shot up 7.3% to US$35.20 in screen-based trading, after posting a smaller-than-expected loss.

Adjusted losses per share in the first quarter of its fiscal year were 16 cents, versus expectations of 26 cents.

Revenue of US$275.6mln was ahead of the consensus forecast of US$266.7mln.

Revenue should be somewhere between US$280mln and US$285mln in the current quarter, according to the company.
