Thomas Cook Group PLC (LON:TCG) plans to close 50 high street stores following a review of its UK retail network, which has been hit by "challenging" market conditions.
The closures include a mix of Thomas Cook and Co-operative Travel branded stores and are expected to take place before March 2018.
The stores affected include those which have been less profitable due to a decline in customers or those that are located in close proximity to other stores.
"We continually review our network of stores across the UK to make sure we're offering customers the best of Thomas Cook, and it is clear that to succeed we have to operate as a truly omni-channel business," said Thomas Cook UK's director of retail and customer experience, Kathryn Darbandi.
Holidays sold in store accounted for 47% of bookings in 2017.
In November, the company said underlying profit from operations (EBIT) rose by 9.2% to £330mln in the year to 30 September as a strong performance in its airline division mitigated a lull in its tour operator business.
At the time chief executive Peter Fankhauser said conditions in the UK have been "challenging" and tough competition for holidays to Spain hit margins but the company has taken action to improve its performance.
