St George Mining starts drilling for nickel-copper extensions at Stricklands prospect

The Stricklands prospect is within the Mt Alexander Project in Western Australia.

St George Mining Ltd (ASX:SGQ) has commenced an expanded drill program at its Stricklands prospect to follow-up significant intersections of nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation.

The Stricklands prospect is within St George’s Mt Alexander Project, located 120 kilometres southwest of the Agnew-Wiluna belt in Western Australia which hosts numerous world class nickel deposits.

WATCH: BREAKING...Exciting times for St.George Mining

John Prineas, executive chairman, said: “The follow-up drilling at Stricklands provides an outstanding opportunity to identify an extension to the significant nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation in MAD71.

“Drilling will continue at Stricklands 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until the Christmas break and we expect to complete most if not all the planned drill holes in this very exciting phase of the drill programme.”

Testing for extensions to high-grade nickel-copper intersection

The initial phase of the drill program involves the completion of seven step-out drill holes to test for extensions to two previous drill holes, with four additional drill holes to be added pending results.

St George had earlier intersected 17 metres of nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation from 37.5 metres downhole comprising massive, disseminated nickel sulphides.

The mineralisation is open to the west and north, in an area where the strong electromagnetic anomalies remain largely untested.

The strong magnetic anomaly is likely to represent a continuation of the prospective ultramafic stratigraphy.

The thickness of the prospective ultramafic and the volume of nickel-copper sulphides intersected to date support the potential for further mineralisation in this area.

Drilling to continue at the Investigators Prospect

St George’s drill targets are located along a 4.5 kilometre strike length of the Cathedrals Belt and include targets at each of the Cathedrals Prospect, the Stricklands Prospect and the Investigators Prospect.

The last four planned drill holes at the Investigators Prospect have not been completed.

St George is planning to drill one or more of the planned holes soon if time permits. Otherwise they will be deferred to 2018.

The deferred drill holes are designed to test possible deeper electromagnetic anomalies that could represent further massive nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation.
