UK shipping firm Clarkson hit by cyber attack

The person behind the hack may release some data shortly

Clarkson PLC (LON:CKN) shares took a dive as the UK shipping services provider said it had come under a cyber attack.

The company, one of the world’s biggest shipbrokers, warned that the person behind the hack may release some data shortly and that it has been working with the police on the incident.

The group’s research operation collects and analyses data on merchant shipping and offshore markets.

Clarkson did not provide any details about the type of data stolen but its initial investigations have shown unauthorised access was gained via a single and isolated user account, which has now been disabled.

“As soon as it was discovered, Clarksons took immediate steps to respond to and manage the incident,” the company said.

Clarkson is contacting potentially affected clients and individuals directly. It has been working with data security specialists to investigate that matter further.
