WPP in marketing discussions with Ford Motor Company

Is US car maker on collision course with its advertising and marketing consultants?

WPP PLC (LON:WPP) is in discussions with Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) regarding the car maker's future marketing.

Ford has verbally informed the advertising giant that it is considering its internal and external marketing model.

According to WPP, Detroit-based Ford said it wants to enter into a further agreement with WPP for a period to be agreed in 2018.

WPP said it is considering the proposal and is discussing next steps with Ford.

In its third-quarter report, WPP said like-for-like sales growth and operating margin would both be flat for the year, compared to its previous expectations for increases of 1% and 0.3% respectively.

It was the second time in two months that it had revised down sales and profit margin forecasts for 2017.

Looking ahead, WPP may benefit from major events in 2018 such as the Winter Olympics, the World Cup and the mid-term Congressional elections in the USA.
