Asiamet appoints mining veteran as new chief financial officer

Most recently James Deo was a consultant to Newcrest Mining, while he has also held senior position in mining giants BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto

Asiamet Resources Limited (LON:ARS) has appointed mining veteran James Deo as its new chief financial officer.

Deo, who will join the Indonesia-focused copper explorer in January, was most recently a consultant to Newcrest Mining – the largest gold miner in Australia.

Before that he spent a decade in various senior leadership positions at OZ Minerals. He has also held senior finance and commercial roles with the likes of BHP Billiton plc (LON:BLT), Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) and Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM).

“As we enter a critical time in Asiamet's development, the appointment of a high calibre senior executive to the position of CFO further strengthens our capacity to deliver our strategy of creating a leading Asian focussed copper-gold company,” said chief executive Peter Bird.

“James brings a proven track record of creating value over the full project lifecycle from exploration through to production and his broad experience in the finance and commercial area will be particularly valuable as we enter the project financing and development stage for the BKM project.”

Asiamet shares edged 1% higher to 10.6p on Friday afternoon.
