Dollar Tree's third quarter earnings and sales beat market expectations, edges up full year guidance

The discount stores chain reported third quarter net income of US$239.9mln, or US$1.01 per share, up from US$171.6mln, or 73 US cents per share last year

Dollar Tree Inc. (NASDAQ:DLTR) saw its third quarter earnings and sales beat market expectations and has edged up its full year guidance.

The discount stores chain reported third quarter net income of US$239.9mln, or US$1.01 per share, up from US$171.6mln, or 73 US cents per share last year, and above consensus expectations for 90 US cents.

The group saw its sales rise to US$5.32bn, up from $5.00bn last year, and above forecasts for US$5.28bn.

Dollar Tree said it expects its fourth quarter sales to range from US$6.32bn to US$6.43bn, against consensus for US$6.37bn, with EPS to be in the range of US$1.80 to US$1.89 against consensus of US$1.80.

The firm expects its full-year sales to be in the range of US$22.2bn to $22.31 billion, compared with previous guidance in the range of US$22.07bn and US$22.28bn and consensus of US$22.2bn.

It added that full year EPS is expected to be in the range of US$4.64 to US$4.73, compared with previous guidance of US$4.44 to US$4.60 and consensus of $4.67.

In pre-market trading, Dollar Tree shares were up 0.25% at US$97.35.
