IXICO wins £750,000 wrist monitor deal

The deal, the second of its kind, is with an unnamed leading biopharmaceutical and is worth £750,000 over two years

IXICO Plc (LON:IXI) has landed another contract to support wrist-worn activity monitors being used by psychiatric patients taking part in a late-stage clinical trial.

The deal, the second of its kind, is with an unnamed leading biopharmaceutical and is worth £750,000 over two years.

The company, a specialist in digital technology used in neuroscience, will deploy its biosensor capabilities and is combining them with its artificial intelligence data analytics algorithms.

The idea is to measure sleep, daytime napping, overall daily activity levels and patterns using data collected from around 200 people at multiple points in the day.

Better measurement

Better measurement of day and night-time sleep is of increasing interest in research and clinical practice.

For some diseases, it provides a guide to disease progression.

Disrupted sleep or daytime somnolence, meanwhile, could represent a side effect of the medication.

The company’s chief executive, Giulio Cerroni, provided more detail on the trial in which IXICO is participating.

“This study is focused on monitoring the treatment of patients with a serious psychiatric disorder, further supporting our view that wearable biosensors have broad utility in clinical research in many therapeutic areas,” he said.

“These two contracts represent an excellent opportunity for IXICO to provide new, innovative digital technologies as part of our commercially led growth strategy.”
