Stock futures indicate a higher start on Wall Street today after yesterday's losses, as US earnings reports are now coming in thick and fast.
Henry Croft at Accendo Markets, noted that global equities on Tuesday were trading higher into the afternoon as investors await key trading updates from five Dow Jones components.
"After breaking a run of six consecutive record closing highs, Dow Jones futures are pointing to a positive open on Wall Street ahead of results from constituents that make up over 15% of its overall weight."
McDonalds Corp (NYSE:MCD) shares added 0.65% after the bell, ahead of its third quarter results before the opening bell.
Investors appear to like the burger chain's recent image change and menu additions, and shares are up 34% so far this year.
Elsewhere, Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) shares raced up 7.66% to US$141.53 after the bell. The machinery giant posted third quarter EPS (earnings per share) of $1.95, which was US$0.68 better than the analyst estimate of US$1.27.
Revenue for the quarter came in at $11.4 billion versus the consensus estimate of $10.63 billion.

United Technologies Corp (NYSE:UTX) saw shares add 1.50% to US$122.70 after hours as it also reported better-than- expected results.
3M Co (NYSE:MMM) zipped up 3.81% to US$ 230 after the American multi-national conglomerate unveiled an 8% increase in third quarter profit. The company said its bottom line came in at US$1,43bn, or US$2.33 per share.
This was up from US$1.33 billion, or $2.15 per share, in last year's third quarter.
