Chubb expects net losses from Hurricane Maria, which impacted Puerto Rico last month, to be US$200mln after tax

The US insurance giant also said it expects net losses from the two Mexican earthquakes which struck in September to be US$24mn after tax

Chubb Ltd. (NYSE:CB) has said it expects net losses from Hurricane Maria, which primarily impacted the Caribbean region including Puerto Rico last month, to be US$200mln after tax.

In a statement outlining its expected insurance and reinsurance impact from recent catastrophes, the US insurance giant also said it expects net losses from the two Mexican earthquakes which struck in September to be US$24mn after tax.

Overall, Chubb said, net losses from all other natural catastrophe in the third quarter, other than those previously announced for Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, are estimated at approximately US$86mln after tax.

Chubb is the world's largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance company, with operations in 54 countries.
