Oracle Power looks for new opportunities after Thar agreement

“As signalled by its change of name [from Oracle Coal] , the company is looking at diversification opportunities in the power sector”

Oracle Power PLC (LON:ORCP) is looking for other opportunities in the power sector now that it has has agreed the outline terms for the development of its Thar thermal power station in Pakistan.

“As signalled by its change of name [from Oracle Coal] , the company is looking at diversification opportunities in the power sector,” said Anthony Scutt, chairman.

Oracle announced a memorandum of understanding had been agreed for Thar's development with two Chinese companies earlier this week.

Today in a statement, it repeated it expects to finalise the terms and sign the MOU next month.

Thar will build a combined lignite coal mine and mine mouth power plant and the Chinese parties will take a significant majority equity holding in return for arranging debt finance and providing Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractors for the project.

Results for the six months to June showed an operational loss of £461,000 (loss of £448,000).
