Bombardier, Siemens, Alstom, Tesla and more

We look at what's piquing investor interest before the bell in Wall Street..

Toronto-listed transport giant Bombardier Inc (TSE:BBD) is a stock in focus in pre-market, having closed yesterday, at C$2.27 - up over 6% ahead of a US trade court ruling.

But the result was that an interim tax of 22% has been imposed on the import of Bombardier's C-Series jets, parts of which are made in Ireland, to the US.

Competitor Boeing lodged a complaint that alleged Bombardier was receiving unfair state subsidies from the UK and Canada.

UK Prime Minster May said she was "bitterly disappointed" over the US Department of Commerce proposal to impose the tax.

Bombardier shares in Toronto today fell 6.17% to C$2.13 each.

In other news, Uber's rival Lyft was in focus, as it seeks to, like many others, develop and make in-roads into self-driving cars.

This week it has unveiled the giant Ford (NYSE:F.) as a partner, joining other big names including Jaguar and GM.

Also in the news is the German engineering giant Siemens and French manufacturer Alstom after they have agreed to merge their rail operations. Shares in both went higher.

Siemens will own 50% of the new joint venture, which will be called Siemens Alstom, while Alstom will supply Henri Poupart-Lafarge as chief executive.

Electric car firm Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) saw shares nudge 0.94% higher as news emerged that it had kicked off talks with the Indian government to bring products there. Tesla shares lost 0.43% on the day to US$343.76 each.

Worthington Industries Inc (NYSE: WOR) saw shares tick 0.12% higher after hours as it was expected to report quarterly earnings today before the bell at $0.82 per share on revenue of $864.80mln. Shares in the regular session slumped 8.51% at US$45.92.
