Cynata Therapeutics wins U.S. patent for stem cell technology

The company's patent covers methods to efficiently manufacture stem cells at scale.

Cynata Therapeutics Ltd (ASX:CYP) has been granted a patent for its proprietary Cymerus™ mesenchymal stem cell technology in the U.S.

The Australia based regenerative medicine company is developing therapies based on its proprietary Cymerus™ stem cell technology platform.

Cynata’s new patent covers the proprietary methods relating to the platform’s ability to efficiently manufacture mesenchymal stem cells at scale.

The Cymerus process includes donor screening and testing, the induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) derivation process and the manufacture and testing of the final product.

Cymerus overcomes critical issues in the production of therapeutic mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) by enabling its economic manufacture in commercial-scale, independent of multi-donor limitations.

Earlier this year, Cynata entered into a strategic agreement with Fujifilm which included the Japanese company investing $4 million in Cynata to become its largest shareholder.

The company has already gained approval for its Phase 1 trial in patients with acute graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) in the UK and Australia.

Cynata is now discussing with regulatory authorities in other key jurisdictions to ensure a clear path for the global clinical development of its products.

The company’s share price has increased circa 15% in the past one month, last trading at $0.68.
