US benchmarks are seen starting mixed in New York after a lower finish, with tech stocks taking a hit.
Today tings are likely to be calmer and several stocks are in investor focus.
Cruise operator giant Carnival (NYSE:CCL) is due to report before the bell, and shares sank 0.27% to US$63.33 after hours.
A big chunk of Carnival’s US$10bn North American revenue comes from its Caribbean operation and even though it has been sailing in the area a long time and knows the weather there, the concern is that this year has been so bad it may not be able to avoid a major trading impact.
Shares have dropped since August from close to all-time high, though broker forecasts are still for third quarter earnings to be at the top of guidance at US$2.20 per share.
Elsewhere, analysts are expecting Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) to have earned $0.48 per share on revenue of $9.09bn in its latest quarter, which it posts after the bell. Shares ran up 0.11% after the bell.
Moleculin Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:MBRX) shares surged over 34% to US$ 3.23 after hours as it received the key FDA approval for its Annamycin IND.
Finally, Darden Restaurants Inc (NYSE: DRI) saw its shraes fall 3.7% in pre-market deals.
It came after the parent of Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse restaurant chains met profit expectations but missed on same-store sales in its quarter to August 27.
