The Fed's press conference at 2.30pm EST and what Janet Yellen says on interest rates is the main market focus on Wednesday but there are plenty of stocks in play in pre-market deals.
One of them is food manufacturing titan General Mills Inc (NYSE:GIS) which reported quarterly earnings ahead of the New York bell.
The Minneapolis-based company posted net income of 69 US cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 71 US cents per share, which was short of Wall Street expectations.
Shares shed 4.8% to US$52.72 in after-hours deals. In the regular session on Wednesday they added 6.02% to $52.10 each.
Herman Miller Inc (NASDAQ:MLHR), the office furnishings group, nudged 0.29% higher at the close and was unchanged after hours. It is expected to post quarterly earnings at US$0.57 per share on revenue of US$578.27mln after the closing bell today. Today shares shed 0.14% to $34.90.
Copart Inc (NASDAQ:CPRT) gained 4.49% after hours to US$32.54 after hours as it reported stronger-than-expected results for its fourth quarter on Tuesday. Copart shares surged 4.49% to US$34.00 in after-hours trading. In the session today, they gained 3.83% to $33.78 each.
The company said its bottom line came in at US$82.90mln, or US$0.35 per share. This was higher than US$69.01mln, or US$0.30 per share, in last year's fourth quarter and analysts had expected the company to earn US$0.29 per share
Finally, AAR Corp (NYSE:AIR) shares dropped 0.29% after hours but gained over 3% in the regular session after it reported in-line profit for its first quarter, while revenue exceeded estimates. AAR and Air Canada reported the conclusion of its C$500mln deal for airframe maintenance in Quebec.
