Gfinity PLC (LON:GFIN) has confirmed the launch of the Gfinity Elite Series season two, commencing on October 6, which will be broadcast live from the Gfinity Esports Arena in London, with season one having gained total viewership of in excess of three million.

The international esports group said, following the success of the first series, the Elite Series season two will run until December 9, when the champions will be awarded their trophies together with the prize money of £225,000.

The firm added that season two will feature the same three popular games as season one - Rocket League, Street Fighter V and Counter Strike:Global Offensive.

The Elite Draft for series two was held on September 15 in which eight professional teams competed to add new players to their rosters from the top qualifying amateur players who earned their spot from competing online in the Gfinity Challenger Series.

Gfinity said total viewership for series one was in excess of three million, with fans around the globe watching through a range of high profile broadcast partners, including BBC Three, BT Sport, Eleven Sport and Twitch.tv, with more than 220 million impressions on social media.

Season two to build on viewership numbers

The company expects to build on those numbers for season two as it looks to establish the Gfinity Elite Series as the leading global format for professional esports competitions.

Neville Upton, Gfinity’s CEO said: "Following the incredibly successful Gfinity Elite Series season one, we are extremely pleased to bring back all the competitive professional gameplay live at the Gfinity Esports Arena and broadcast online and on linear television starting 6th October.”

He added: “We also welcome back some of the best players in the competitive gaming community and look forward to seeing the newly discovered talent that comes from the Challenger Series via the Elite Draft."
