CLOSE

US benchmarks continues to rally into the close and the Dow Jones and S&P 500 reached fresh record highs.

The Dow closed up over 63 at 22,331, while the S&P 500 gained over 3.6 points to finish at 2,503.

The tech heavy Nasdaq index finished 6.17 up at 6,454.

In Toronto the, TSX closed around 72 higher at 15,245.

US benchmark crude (West Texas Intermediate) stands 0.02% higher, at US$49.90 a barrel at the time of writing.

MID-SESSION

US stocks were still taking part in the global share rally at mid-session, with the Dow Jones up 74 pts at 22,342.

The S&P 500 gained 4.78 at 2,504, and the Nasdaq added 24 at 6,473.

US benchmark crude was a tad up - 0.06% higher at US$49.92 a barrel.

The TSX in Toronto added over 24 points to stand at 15,197. Earlier in London, FTSE 100 added over 37 points at 7,253.

in companies, Nabriva Therapeutics Plc (NASDAQ:NBRV) shares added over 36% to $9.34 as it said that its Phase 3 trial evaluating IV and oral lefamulin met all primary FDA and EMA endpoints.

Silver Spring Networks Inc (NYSE:SSNI) added over 23% to $16.11 as Itron Inc unviled plans to acquire Silver Spring Networks for $16.25 per share.

Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE:NOC) said on Monday that it has agreed to buy its fellow defense contractor Orbital ATK Inc. (NYSE:OA) for US$7.8bn in cash.

As the spread bet firms had expected, the Dow Jones jumped to an all-time high shortly after the bell as it headed past the 22,300 level for the first time ever.

The index is currently up 0.25%, or 54.8 points, to 22,323.1 with trucks and diggers maker Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), up 1.8% to US$123.53, leading the way.

The S&P 500 has also set a fresh high after shooting up 0.2% to 2,504.7, while the Nasdaq also got off to a hot start, gaining 0.4% to 6,476 – just shy of its own record.

PREVIEW

The Dow Jones is seen as opening 40 points higher at 22,312 which would be a new record high and the first time the index has gone past 22,300.

The S&P 500 is also expected to add 3.5 points at the open to 2,503.3, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq is seen 9 points higher at 5,996.7.
