Lucasfilm calls in JJ Abrams to oversee delayed episode 9 of Star Wars saga

With Colin Trevorrow dumped by Lucasfilms last week and replaced yesterday by new man JJ Abrams, who wrote and directed "The Force Awakens", the film's release date has been changed from May 2019 to December 2019

Stop me if you have heard this before, but the release of the next episode in the Star Wars saga will be delayed.

In a repeat of the Star Wars VIII delay, the scheduled May (2019) release has now been put back to December 20, 2019.

It was announced yesterday that JJ Abrams, the man who was behind the Star trek reboot and who also directed Star Wars episode “The Force Awakens” in 2015, is returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IX.

Abrams will co-write the film with Chris Terrio. Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm.

“With The Force Awakens, JJ delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

Abrams's appointment follows the parting of the ways between Lucasfilms, now owned by Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS), and Colin Trevorrow last week; Trevorrow, who directed the 2015 film “Jurassic World”, was the original choice to write and direct episode 9 of the Star Wars series.

Trevorrow out of Star Wars 9? Where are the, "Give the rights back to Lucas. This cinematic universe is an unsalvageable mess.", articles?
