MID-SESSION

US stocks are stomping ahead at mid-session as traders continue to shrug off storm worries or North Korea anxiety.

The Dow Jones is up 260 at 22,058, while the S&P 500 added over 26 at 2,487.

The tech heavy Nasdaq index gained over 71 points at 6,431.

Among top gainers on S&P500 was Everest Re GroUp (NYSE:RE), up 4.72% to $232.97.

On the losing front, credit score specialist Equifax Inc (NYSE:EFX) shed 6.95% to $114.67. Last week the group unveiled a huge data breach.

OPEN

Taking the cue from European equities, US shares gained ground on the open on Wall Street.

The Dow Jones Industrial Index added over 209 points at 22,003, while the broader based S&P 500 gained over 21 at 2,483.

The tech heavy Nasdaq raced up over 76 points at 6,436.

US crude is down 0.91% to stand at $47.06 a barrel.

In Toronto, the TSX also gained ground, and added over 76 points to stand at 15,061.

Electric vehicle firm Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) gained 4% to $357.15 as it emerged it has provided customers fleeing Hurricane Irma with a free software update that extends the battery capacity of their electric vehicles.

The temporary update added around 30 to 40 miles to the driving range of the 75-kilowatt-hour Model S sedans and Model X SUVs.

On the flipside, Medtronic Inc (NYSE:MDT) shares shed 0.78% to $81.39 as it issued a voluntary recall of its diabetes infusion sets that are used with all models of its insulin pumps.

The recall comes after reports from patients that a discontinued component, the vent membrane, may be susceptible to being blocked by fluid during priming and fill-tubing.
